CWR for SIAE
SIAE administers performance and mechanical rights in Italy. Italy's society for authors and publishers.
History
Founded in 1882, SIAE held a legal monopoly on Italian collective management for almost 140 years. Liberalization came in 2018, forced in part by the challenger Soundreef, and was accompanied by a competition-authority fine over tactics used against switching rightsholders — one of Europe's sharpest recent lessons in what competition does to old monopolies.
CWR at SIAE
CWR is the standard registration route for publisher repertoire into SIAE, as across the CISAC world since the 2000s.
Publishers deliver CWR files to SIAE directly (as members, affiliates, or sub-publishers). Like nearly every CISAC society, SIAE works in the CWR 2.1 / 2.2 era — the versions in production use worldwide since the standard displaced the proprietary registration formats of the 1990s. Per-society delivery profiles do change, so confirm the current version and any local quirks before a first delivery.
