Music publishing in Netherlands
How music publishing actually works in the Netherlands: who claims which rights, what the national copyright system does, and what it takes for a publisher to set up and collect.
Who claims which rights
Performance: BUMA. Mechanicals: STEMRA. One membership covers both. Sync: direct.
Copyright registration in the Netherlands
Automatic under Berne; a voluntary tax-office (i-DEPOT-style) deposit exists for evidence but plays no role in music practice.
Setting up to claim publishing rights
BUMA/STEMRA accepts foreign publishers directly and administers Benelux-wide deals comfortably; Dutch administration is English-friendly, making it one of the easier continental direct memberships.
The societies
BUMA/STEMRA — each linked page covers the society’s history and how registrations reach it.
