CWR for SOCAN

SOCAN administers performance rights in Canada. Canada's performing rights organization.

History

SOCAN was formed in 1990 by the merger of Canada's two competing PROs, CAPAC and PROCAN, ending decades of split repertoire; in 2018 it absorbed the mechanical society SODRAC. It is Canada's single front door for performance rights.

CWR at SOCAN

SOCAN is the third member of MusicMark, so its CWR intake is the same pipe as ASCAP's and BMI's — one delivery covers North America's three performance societies.

Registrations flow through MusicMark, the ASCAP–BMI–SOCAN joint venture: one CWR delivery covers all three organizations. Like nearly every CISAC society, SOCAN works in the CWR 2.1 / 2.2 era — the versions in production use worldwide since the standard displaced the proprietary registration formats of the 1990s. Per-society delivery profiles do change, so confirm the current version and any local quirks before a first delivery.
