CWR for NexTone

NexTone administers performance and mechanical rights in Japan. Japan's second society, strongest in digital uses.

History

NexTone was formed on 1 February 2016 by the merger of e-License and Japan Rights Clearance, the two challengers enabled by Japan's 2001 market opening, with the long-term aim of contesting JASRAC's dominance in performing rights. Many Japanese rightsholders now split repertoire between the two societies, use by use.

CWR at NexTone

As with JASRAC, foreign works generally arrive via a Japanese sub-publisher working from your CWR; NexTone's digital-first systems make clean, complete works data especially visible.

Like nearly every CISAC society, NexTone works in the CWR 2.1 / 2.2 era — the versions in production use worldwide since the standard displaced the proprietary registration formats of the 1990s. Per-society delivery profiles do change, so confirm the current version and any local quirks before a first delivery.
