CWR from Music Maestro
Music Maestro — Counterpoint Systems’ publishing administration system, now part of Vistex — has run the back office of music publishing for decades: works and copyright administration, agreements, licensing, royalty processing, and bulk society registration via CWR. If you administer a catalog of any age, there’s a fair chance it lives (or lived) in Music Maestro.
The good news: everything CWR needs is in there
Music Maestro’s data model holds the full registration picture — works, writers and publishers with their IP numbers, ownership and collection splits, agreements, and territory setups — and the system can generate CWR (2.2-compatible) for bulk delivery to societies. We know this first-hand: we’ve exported catalog data from Music Maestro and delivered society-ready CWR built from it.
Why Music Maestro CWR files still bounce
The format is only as clean as the catalog behind it. The problems we see in real exports are rarely the software’s fault — they’re decades of catalog history surfacing at delivery time:
- Shares that no longer total 100% after years of catalog acquisitions, splits, and re-signs;
- Publisher shares over the 50% performance cap, usually where an ownership figure was keyed where a collection figure belonged;
